Rocca Rocked My World
As I mentioned yesterday, this past October I recently hosted some wine parties with my father. For one of these parties we focused on Rocca Family Vineyards, which has been a favorite of my father for years. Founded in 1999 their debut bottling was a 2000 Syrah. Although we had a Syrah in our cellar we focused more on their Bordeaux offerings.
We tasted the:
2012 Vespera, Napa Valley Red Blend
2013 Vespera, Napa Valley Red Blend (Parker gave it 95 points)
2013 Grigsby Vineyard, Yountville Napa Valley Merlot
2012 Clinetta Vineyard, Coomsville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
2012 Grigsby Vineyard, Yountville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
2010 Tesorina, Napa Valley Red Blend
One of the best parts of hosting a wine party is hearing other people's perspective on the wine. The attendees had a wide range of wine experience which led to some interesting discussions on the wine. All the wines tasted we're stunning, but my favorite was the 2013 Merlot which was a surprise because I tend to favor blends. Everyone had a different favorite for a different reason.
